The Garfield Update makes your scienceOS library more complete and interconnected: you can now import a broader range of document formats and bring your JabRef libraries into scienceOS.
Research draws on a diverse landscape of documents, references, and sources that together shape how we understand a topic. Yet, bringing this knowledge together can be challenging. Information scattered across formats and reference collections, or sources that are easily overlooked, can leave gaps in an otherwise valuable body of research. Trustworthy research starts with a trustworthy foundation.
When the knowledge behind a research project is brought together as completely and transparently as possible, researchers can spend less time worrying about what might be missing and more time exploring connections, questioning assumptions, and advancing their work.
With a more complete research foundation in place, you can spend more time engaging with the knowledge that matters to your work. Here is how the latest improvements support you throughout your research workflow.
Bring more of your research into scienceOS.
Your research material comes in many forms, from scientific papers to reports, manuscripts, and presentations. Bringing all these materials together is essential for maintaining context and working across your research.

Support for PDF, Word, and PowerPoint files (supported file formats) makes it easier to bring your existing research material into your chats, library, and projects.
This means fewer format-related obstacles and less need to work around fragmented document collections. More of the material you rely on can become part of your research workflow.
Bring your JabRef reference collection along.
Your references are another essential part of your research workflow. Whether you manage them in Zotero or JabRef, you want to build on the literature you have already collected rather than start over in a new environment.
You can now bring your JabRef reference collection into scienceOS, together with the associated documents stored alongside it.
This makes it easier to bring your existing literature into your scienceOS library while keeping your established reference management workflow. Your research can continue where you left off.

Keep every reference in view.
But a complete research collection is about more than the documents you have downloaded. References to websites, manuscripts, publications, and other sources can be just as important, even when no attached file is available.

References without attached documents are now also imported from Zotero, JabRef, and BibTeX, ensuring that these sources become part of your library too.
Your imported collection can now reflect the full range of sources you have gathered. That gives you a more complete and transparent foundation for exploring your research, with greater confidence in the knowledge you build upon.
Why Garfield Update?
This update of scienceOS is dedicated to Eugene Eli Garfield, who pioneered information science and transformed how scientific literature is documented and organized. He championed the idea that research becomes more valuable when knowledge and its sources are comprehensively collected and made accessible.
Go deep on complex questions.
The AI research agent works through complex questions in depth, and free users can now try Go deep.
Some research questions need more than a few searches: reading the full texts of many studies, weighing evidence, or checking the citations of a manuscript.

Go deep in the chat bar lets the AI research agent choose the most suitable in-depth approach for your question. You can also pick one directly from the menu next to it: deep research, data extraction, citation check, critical review, or create diagram.
On the free plan, you can try Go deep on smaller questions. Paid plans give it its full depth: many more sources searched, more full texts read, and the most thorough answers for your research.
